Polina is a film about a young Russian dancer who leaves the strict ballet of the Moscow Bolshoi Theatre to study in France under the instruction of Liria Elsaj. Liria Elsaj, played by actress Juliette Binoche, strives to bring out the artistic potential of each of her students. But, just when Polina dares to fully express herself on stage, she falls in love with Adrien.

Traditional Arabian music and Finnish contemporary dance join in a nonverbal dialogue about the coexistence between two different cultures. Due to an unexpected turn, the production and presentation of this piece was forced to change course. The piece ultimately brings forth the inhumanity of strict asylum policies.

The production Ali & Alpo will tour Äänekoski, Joutsa and Jämsä, holding the Grand Opening in Äänekoski and offering dance workshops in both Joutsa and Jämsä.

This is the ”true story” performance by a trio of high profile professional artists nearing midlife crisis. This piece is filled with wild stunts and of a cavalcade of movement but it is also a socially political statement that hopes to spark a wider discussion about men’s role in society today. Face-to-Face is the fusion of visual art and dance using the traces made by two dancers and one visual artist. This piece offers a glimpse into the creative process of image making. For this festival, a new version of the original performance can be experienced indoors live (entrance fee) or outside as projected image (free of charge).
Santeri Sammakon seikkailut / Tanssiteatteri MD

This performance for young children, is an interactive piece about Santeri’s adventures as he makes friends, through the seasons. The performance is based on Leena Junnila’s book Lits läts lätäkkö! and is performed close to the ground, in an intimate setting for children sitting in the security of their parent’s laps. (Performance is in Finnish).
Breath / Tero Saarinen Company

Choreographer and dancer Tero Saarinen and musician, accordion artist Kimmo Pohjonen challenge each other in a tour de force of sound and movement. Live music, dance and visual elements intermix creating a wild and mystic vision, with a Beckett like reflection on life, flavoured with an absurd humour.

As part of the traditional Tourujoki lantern festival ,organized by the Jyväskylä School of Craft and Design and the City of Light Festival, butoh dance specialist Helena Ratinen will perform on the water. Amongst the lanterns, at the bow of a boat, stands a figure dressed in white, illuminated in the night. Is it a water spirit? The river’s history? A phantom?

This year, the Dance Time Festival Lounge is the Panza Restaurant where there will be special afterparties with DJs Toistuvat yllätykset on Friday and DJ Focus on Saturday night. The kitchen will be open until 9:30pm, so hungry spectators can still eat after the last festival performances of the night.

JUSSI SIRVIÖ leapt from a youth home in Muurame, to professionally judging and performing street dance on major stages around the world. How did he get there, what did it take? What kind of profession is street dancing, or is it a profession at all? This lecture is about Jussi’s life through break dance.

Compañía Kaari & Roni Martin’s Anna Karenina is based on Tolstoi’s famous love triangle. The soundscape for this piece, including influences from Tom Waits and echoes of Brecht, is compiled into a hypnotizing whole which, together with the performers, carries the spectators into a symptomatic, twisted world.
